The Capital Region Community Foundation recently approved 66 grants totaling $201,537, ranging from $802 to Michigan Dyslexia Institute for the Camp Starlight Scholarship Fund to $18,283 to the City of Children's Friends of the Orphans fund for operating support.
Among some of this spring's other grants:
$3,296 to YMCA of Metropolitan Lansing for its Fit KidsStart Program
$2,866 to Lansing Area AIDS Network for LAAN's Continuum of Care Client Assistance
$3,162 to Highfields, Inc., for emergency needs
$4,683 to the Tri-County Aging Consortium for crisis services for the elderly
$6,509 to Cristo Rey Community Center for the Family Health Clinic/Prescription Assistance Program
$3,312 to the Boys and Girls Club of Lansing for SMART (Skills Mastery And Resistance Training) Moves Prevention Program
"We are pleased to be able to fulfill the needs of so many nonprofits in our region," said Dennis W. Fliehman, President and CEO of the Capital Region Community Foundation. "Even as our economy continues to recover, this type of charitable support remains vital for these organizations."
So far in 2010, the Capital Region Community Foundation has issued 277 grants of more than $1.6 million. More grants will be awarded later this year.
The Capital Region Community Foundation currently has more than $61 million in assets and was created by the community as a vehicle to support the charitable needs and philanthropic interests of people living in Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties. The Community Foundation receives gifts to establish endowment funds, and the income generated by the nearly 400 funds is returned to the community each year in the form of grants. The Community Foundation awarded 674 grants in 2009 totaling more than $3 million.
